I don't think there is any wonder that the stock market mirrors movement in the polls. Obama goes up, market goes down, race tightens, market goes up. Now there is a bit of a chicken and the egg thing here and Obama people would argue that the market going down illustrates 8 years of Bush-McCain....blah blah blah. I think at least half of the movement within the past month is tied to the devestating effects of a liberal supermajority and the high regulation-high tax-anti-trade policies that would be the natural result. Jonah Goldberg proposes this theory earlier this month here :

I am beginning to think investors should check poll numbers to determine when to buy.
