To simplify, a bunch of flakes doing refi's to pay off credit cards, take vacations or buy plasma televisions and people buying homes that they clearly couldn't afford with crazy teaser rates accomplished what the Cold War and Islamic Fascists could not do. They were able to bring the greatest economy in the history of the world to its knees and to the bring of collapse.
