Obama continues his war against the private sector. This time he has his sites set on private charity. He wants to reduce the tax deduction for the wealthy who give to charity. Wealthy donations is what charities rely on to meet their obligations and help people. Sure your dollar you drop in the Salvation Army bucket is greatly appreciated but new centers are built with checks of 10, 20, 100 thousand dollars from wealthy donors. Obama wants to put a stop to that.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/24/AR2009032402462.html . Never mind that even charities with a high administrative overhead like United Way use a higher percentage of the operating budget actually helping people (versus eaten up by bureaucracy) than government. It doesn't matter. Private charities don't try to foster dependence. In fact the opposite. The goal is to get people off them and on their own. This is no good if you want to control them and their votes. Something interesting I noticed though. The National Service Bill
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/23/national-service-corps-bill-clears-senate-hurdle/ has cleared the Senate and will probably pass the House easily where there is no 60 percent rule, and be signed by the President. This bill costs $6 billion dollars. Of course its costs will escalate. But in a nutshell, we are going to pay private "volunteers" to do work that has been done by private charity. Yes we are going to be taking away from charities in the form of the reduction of the charity tax deduction and funnel that money through some government bureaucracy and ultimately pay off some volunteers to do charity work. Does this make any sense? Of course not if you are just using logic or are concerned with what works. No, it does make sense to those who want to control EVERY FACET OF OUR LIVES. This is the bottom line. Once you understand this, everything about the Obama administration and the Pelosi House and Reid Senate makes perfect sense.
