Thinking of Going on a Diet

Like much of the rest of us I have put on some weight around the middle over the years, particularly after my two children arrived.  Since I know I am going to be dieting soon I plan on splurging on peanut butter chocolate ice cream, Korean Taco Truck Burritos  http://kogibbq.com/, maple fudge, lots of cookies, both peanut butter and maple (my favorites), Double Double's from In and Out http://www.inandout.com/ and whatever suits my fancy.  After which I will begin my diet and have set a goal to lose 2 ounces.  Ridiculous you say?  That is what Obama did with his budget cabinet meeting yesterday http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/20/AR2009042000641.html .  First he committed to spending trillions of dollars and pledges to cut 100 million.  I heard it explained this way. Say your family has a $100,000 budget and you have a family meeting to immediately figure out how to cut $2.68 from the budget.  Why engage in such a ridiculous exercise? First, the press.  Remember we don't have an independent press except Jake Tapper http://newledger.com/2009/04/loven-and-tapper-vs-gibbs-the-instant-replay/ .  We have a PR firm working for Obama and the Democrats.  Every news story was about Obama cracking down on government spending.  Secondly, he wanted to take the steam out of the Tea Parties http://www.teapartypatriots.org/ which are gaining momentum across the country.  If anyone hasn't seen this CNN reporter in action at the Tea Party, you should http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Anm99yEkvxE .  Third,  Obama wanted to give the impression that government spending isn't wasteful by asking agencies to cut such a small amount and the result was an offer to save on office supplies.  If my family were looking for ways to cut spending and the only thing I could find is using low grade toilet paper, that would imply all higher elements of spending had already been cut.  Unfortunately America appears to buying the BS so on second thought, I'll buy extra toilet paper and a shovel.
