MY THOUGHTS ON THE DEBATE

McCain finally responded with very points tonight.  I thought his constant mention of the Joe the plumber certainly hammered his point home about Barack Obama and taxation.  Ironically I thought McCain's high water mark tonight, other than "accidentally" calling Barack "Senator Government" before correcting to Senator Obama, was on education and McCain's support of vouchers.  This is an area of weakness for Obama. He has sold his soul to the trial lawyers, abortion lobby and the teachers unions and will never betray any of them.  Obama was also squirly on the abortion issue again and tried to use government procedure to justify his votes.  If anything this will help motivate the pro life people even more.  On education McCain mentioned several times that he wants poor Americans to have the same choice that he and Senator Obama had to send their children to a private school if they choose.

Ultimately though I think this won't help McCain much if at all.  Barack is always going to look slicker and smoother than McCain.  The says we spend the most per pupil on education and yet we have some of the poorest results. Clearly the implication that more money won't solve the problem and yet BO says we can improve accountability and spend more money. Free puppies for everyone!!!  Free college!!! Free health care!!!! Free everything, unless you are unlucky Joe the plumber. Maybe Joe should give up plumbing and go to college and get on the dole. I pray that Americans see it for what it is, BS, and vote for a man of substance who has given all for his country.  I fear that many Americans do not realize what makes us special and votes to turn us into France or Sweden or worse.

My fear is that the natural human tendency is not for self reliance. That must be taught by our parents and reinforced by our society and our faith.  Our natural tendency is to remain children and be taken care of our lives.  Uncle Barack is offering this.  There was a question in  the second debate whether health care is a right, responsibility or something or other.  Uncle Barack responded it is a right.  In a great column by Bill Whittle in National Review (http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=OTg0M2RjYjRlMGU0MTRjNWUxZTkwODQ1NWE3OTc2Yjg=), Whittle debates this point and comes to the following conclusion that you can apply to health care or anything else in Uncle Barack's goodie bag, "Because isn’t the danger here that if you’re offered something for nothing… you’ll take it? Only it’s not something for nothing. “Free” health-care costs us something precious, and no less precious for being invisible. Because there’s a word for someone who has their food, housing and care provided for them… for people who owe their existence to someone else. And that word is “slaves.”

Are we a people putting the chains back on and heading back to Egypt?

SEND IN YOUR MONEY NOW PATRIOTS!!!!

Obama wants to share the wealth, your wealth specifically. This is class warfare at its worst. Taking him at face he is betting the 95% getting a cut have more votes than the 5% getting shafted or dare I say being more patriotic. The problem is it is a losing proposition for society and even government revenues. Even, Bill Clinton knew that if you cut capital gains taxes, for example, the government gets more revenue because government makes money on the movement of assets, not people just sitting on them. Tax revenues went up during tax cuts under JFK, Reagan and Bush.. The converse is also true. It is true because people change their behavior. People work less overtime. The invest less. They buy fewer cars. All of these have a negative impact on the economy. This politics of envy may be a winner for Barack and the Democrats but it is an ultimate loser for society. I think PJ O'Rourke puts it best commenting on the 10th Commandment "What is that doing in there? Why would God, with just ten things to tell Moses, choose, as one of them, jealousy about the things the man next door has? And yet think about how important to the well-being of a community this commandment is. If you want a donkey, if you want a meal, if you want an employee, don't complain about what other people have, go get your own. The tenth commandment sends a message to collectivists, to people who believe wealth is best obtained by redistribution. And the message is clear and concise: Go to hell. A friend of mine sent me a quotation that has been falsely attributed to Abraham Lincoln but is nonetheless true: You cannot bring prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot further brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves. It seems that Barack Obama and the Pelosi and Reid lead Democratic Party is trying the opposite of each of those truisms. When you are robbing Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on the support of Paul. Barack even acknowledged earlier in the year that his capital gains increase may result in less government revenue but still wants it for "fairness." This is a partial transcript of the interchange between ABC's Charlie Gibson and Barack Obama: GIBSON: All right. You have, however, said you would favor an increase in the capital gains tax. As a matter of fact, you said on CNBC, and I quote, "I certainly would not go above what existed under Bill Clinton," which was 28 percent. It's now 15 percent. That's almost a doubling, if you went to 28 percent. But actually, Bill Clinton, in 1997, signed legislation that dropped the capital gains tax to 20 percent. OBAMA: Right. GIBSON: And George Bush has taken it down to 15 percent. OBAMA: Right. GIBSON: And in each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased; the government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down. So why raise it at all, especially given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected? OBAMA: Well, Charlie, what I've said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness. So in the interest of fairness check out the exchange between Barack Obama and one of the unlucky 5% who is a plumber in Ohio: http://www.breitbart.tv/html/195153.html

CHANGE...GOT ANY?

CHANGE.

I was wondering if all the people who are wearing the Obama Change shirts could get them modified to say "Got any spare" before the " change."  Barack's tax and spend policies particularly on the upper income earners who owns small businesses and capital is going to put this country into a deep recession if not worse.

Speaking of change, Jesse Jackson knows change is in the wind for Israel.  Gone will be our staunch backing for our closest ally in the region.  This should come as no surprise to those who knew his adviser met with Hamas this year.  http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/10/another_obama_muslim_outreach.html.  Now Jesse Jackson weighs in on "change" in our support for Israel : http://www.nypost.com/seven/10142008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/the_o_jesse_knows_133450.htm .  Hopefully Jewish people in this election will quit voting for FDR (even though he had one opportunity to save Jews during the Holocaust and sent the SS St. Louis back and to certain death. http://spectator.org/archives/2003/12/10/presidential-moral-leadership . Jews of Israel by the way prefer McCain 2-1.  They know their survival depends on it and aren't looking for change.

LEARN TO LOVE BIG BROTHER

I noticed something a week ago. Actually I noticed it a while ago but could not place what was wrong with the picture.  Living in California, I have seen probably hundreds if not thousands of Barack Obama signs with his image in red, white and blue along with words like hope, change, or progress.  What hadn't occurred to me originally was that this is new to American politics.  I have been voting since 1984 and aware of elections since 1980.  I could not recall a single campaign where the candidate's image was used in this way on posters, bumper stickers,  signs, and t shirts (http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/10/021681.php).  Not in this country.  You really had to go back in time to Stalinist Soviet Union (parodied as Big Brother by Orwell in 1984) or Chairman Mao, or Fidel. It is very common in dictatorships of the third world.

"The Coming Thugocracy," is the title of an article by Michael Barone detailing Barack and followers attempt to shut down dissent. His article can be viewed here: http://townhall.com/columnists/MichaelBarone/2008/10/11/the_coming_obama_thugocracy and here : http://www.usnews.com/blogs/barone/2008/10/14/obama-supporters-may-spew-more-hate-than-mccain-backers.html

Barack's voulenteers turned this woman into the secret service: http://www.lufkindailynews.com/search/content/news/stories/2008/10/07/secret_service.html.

ACORN is trying to rig the election. The examples are too numerous to site entirely but here are a few :

Anyone want to wager who ACORN is registering people for?

Once back in power, President Obama will likely reimpose the "Fairness Doctrine." This is something he can do with the stroke of a pen. This will effectively mean the end of talk radio and coupled with an attempt by Democrats to regulate content on the internet, it will mean shutdown of dissent.  http://news.bostonherald.com/news/opinion/op_ed/view.bg?articleid=1125337&srvc=home&position=rated

This will indeed be a change election, hopefully we'll have the opportunity to change it back.

FINALLY SOME GOOD NEWS

*ZOGBY MONDAY: OBAMA 48%, MCCAIN 44%... DEVELOPING...

RASMUSSEN MONDAY: OBAMA 50%, MCCAIN 45%... DEVELOPING...

These two are the ones I give the most credence to.  Newsweek is bogus (see Jim Gehrety's analysis). Gallup looks at registered and not likely voters. Many Republicans re registered as Democrats in the battleground states during Rush Limbaugh's operation chaos last spring. They may have not reregistered as Republicans.  Even Gallup shows it tightening. Barack has always over polled and underperformed. Whether this is the Bradley effect or something else working I do not know.  My hunch is people just don't feel comfortable with the guy.  He is like that salesman you meet who is slick and says all the right things but something in the pit of your gut says, don't trust him. Plus given all of the bed economic news, Barack has yet to articulate how HE is going to fix the problems of our economy. When asked he seems to be able to articulate that there is a problem but no answers are given except stuff about closing tax loopholes for corporations and giving more welfare to poor people....sorry I mean his middle class tax cut to 95% of Americans where only 50 percent pay any taxes anyway and the top 10 percent pay nearly all of the taxes.

More good news is I think other than the 30 minute Barack night in two weeks, he may have used up his ammo. Palin's troopergate is a big whatever and even if it isn't to some people, it is probably factored in already.  The big drive upward for Obama seems to have been a declining stock market (something that may actually have been magnified by the perception of an Obama win and the tax increase implications on investment and small businesses).  Well the market may have hit bottom Friday morning with it's 800 point drop I believe to finish only 128 down. The G7 met and appear to be working on a world solution to a world wide economic problem.  The dollar is still 73-74 cents to the Euro way off its low earlier this year. This will help push Oil prices down along with the slowing world economy.  Take out your tissue and weep for OPEC now.  The market could conceivably start moving upward this week and with every day it moving upward, the less Barack has to use it as an issue. Most people don't really follow the market other than a way of keeping score like at a football game or basketball game.  If your team is down by 21 points, you know something is wrong but if they score a couple of touchdowns you feel better. Basically Barack and the Dems are shorting America to use a stock analogy.  Bad news on the economy or the war, good news for Dems and Barack.  Conversely Goods news on both, bad news for the Dems.  One last point before I hit the hay.  I read last week that inside the BO campaign, they are getting excited and perceiving a landslide for BO. The only thing that could stop it is a "terrorist attack." I believe this is their words.  Now why would a terrorist attack favor Navy hero McCain over community organizer Obama? mmmmmmmmmm This logic holds if there is no chance of one during the next four years. Anyone want to take that wager?  If not why bet the lives of Americans on a novice that may result in the death of Americans and others. Further, to bring up economics, a major attack on our soil would be a major bummer for the market. Remember the last panic on Wallstreet? The last big sell of was sometime in September of 2001.
